World Record Set for Largest Cream Tea Party at Multiple Venues!
Stoke-on-Trent has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the largest cream tea party at multiple venues. The previous record of 667 participants, set in 2015 in Leeds was finally broken after 10 years as Stoke-on-Trent set a new record of 777 participants.
The world record attempt took place across five 'official' venues in the city, with further events taking place in community venues which saw around 15,000 people come together on Tuesday to celebrate the city's centenary through shared tea and scone events.
Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, Cllr Chandra Kanneganti, Cllr Ross Irving and Cllr Abi Brown all attended world record attempt venues to help break the record.
Cllr Abi Brown said "I always welcome the opportunity to enjoy a cream tea, but to do so as part of a world record attempt was the icing on the cake! It was a fantastic day, and I'd like to thank everyone who worked so hard to put the events on."
Cllr Lorraine Beadmore added "What a brilliant day! It was so lovely to be able to come together with other residents to attempt to break the world record. The Victoria Hall was buzzing and residents both young and old came together to celebrate our centenary year in such a unique way."
Cllr Ross Irving said "What a brilliant day! Well done Stoke-on-Trent!"
Cllr Chandra Kanneganti added "It was such a wonderful event to be a part of. Meeting new people, sharing scones and tea - and setting a new world record! Fantastic!"
