For the second time in a fortnight, Stoke on Trent Conservatives councillors have forced the Labour-led Stoke-on-Trent City Council to apologise for failing to keep residents accurately informed. Earlier this month, the Labour-led Council were forced into an embarrassing climb-down around grit stock in the city - now poor communication and failed service delivery has been higlighted by local Conservatives as bins fail to be emptied across the city.
We all know that winter weather makes delivering services a bit more tricky, but letting residents know what’s going on with the services we all rely on is fairly simple to do. Bins are now overflowing across the city with the city council around a week late with collections as a result of a single day of snow early in the new year.
A local Conservative said "Communication from the council has been so poor. We had one day of snow, and we understand that this impacts some services. But for this to now result in bin collections being delayed by more than a week - without an update to residents - is absolutely shocking."
Bin collections were already delayed due to bin collectors Christmas break, but the additional week delay means that some residents have now had to wait more than three weeks for their bins to be emptied. Residents across the city have taken to social media to highlight that they don't know what is going on or when their bins will be collected - with the council communications channel silent on updates.
Residents have also highlighted a big increase in flytipping as people use the lack of collections as a excuse to dump larger items.
Once again, Labour fails to deliver basic services to local residents.
